INDEPENDENT TOURS FOR 2007

INDEPENDENT BIKING:

INDEPENDENT HIKING

  • Hadrian's Wall for 2007: The walking path that traces its line is in fact the youngest National Trail, opened only in May 2003, and now  you, too, can feel like a Legionary, or at least an auxiliary, with the opportunity of walking its 82 mile / 133 km length! 8D7N, from $1105.
  • Scotland: Hiking the West Highland Way for 2005: This tour takes us into the magnificent countryside of the Highlands of Scotland following most of Scotland’s most famous footpath on its course from the south of Loch Lomond to Fort William on the threshold of Ben Nevis, linking Britain’s largest lake with its highest mountain. 8D/7N, from $1075.
  • Scotland: The Great Glen Way for 2005: This long distance trail was opened in April 2002. It starts at Fort William and crosses the Highlands to finish in Inverness. The forts and castles scattered along the way are all witnesses to Scotland’s turbulent past, from the Iron Age to the Jacobite Rebellion lead by Bonnie Prince Charlie who was finally defeated at the Battle of Culloden. 8D/7N, from $1075.
  • Offa's Dyke (England & Wales): Crossing the border between England and Wales more than 10 times, the Offa’s Dyke National Trail path follows some of the finest scenery in both countries for 177 miles (285 km). Our walk follows the southern half of this trail from Chepstow to Knighton. 8D/7N, from $940.
  • St Cuthbert's Way for 2005: The St Cuthbert's Way is a long-distance path that was established in 1996. The route reflects the life of this 7th Century monk, extending from Melrose Abbey in the Scottish borders, where he became bishop to the island of Lindisfarne just off the coast of Northumberland in northeast England, where he was buried. 8D/7N, from 925, or 10D/9N, from $1135.
  • Yorkshire Dales: This tour includes the whole of the much loved Dales Way long distance path, which runs right across the Yorkshire Dales National Park and on to the shores of Windermere in the Lake District National Park. 8D/7N, from $945
  • English Lakes for 2005: This delightful walk will take you through England's most rugged and mountainous landscape: the Lake District National Park, celebrated by the poetry of Wordsworth and more recently by Beatrix Potter. 8D/7N, from $1050.
  • England Coast to Coast  for 2005: The walk starts on the Irish Sea coast of Cumbria near the huge red sandstone cliffs of St. Bees Head. You cross three National Parks before reaching the North Sea at the pretty fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay on the rocky coastline of the North York Moors. 15D/14N, from 1495.
  • England Coast to Coast: This tour is the hillier half of Wainwright's classic route for people with less time, or perhaps without the inclination for the full walk. This starts on the Irish Sea coast of Cumbria near the huge red sandstone cliffs at St. Bees Head and ends in Kirkby Stephen, an important Peninne market town. 8D/7N, from $935.
  • Cotswolds for 2006: This holiday is for those who want an easy introduction to walking in the English countryside. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Cotswold landscape is an entrancing mixture of parkland, cultivated fields with dry-stone walls, and patches of unspoiled woodland. 8D/7N, from $1000.
  • The South Downs Way for 2005: Exactly 100 miles of chalk downland walking separates the Victorian seaside town of Eastbourne and the ancient Saxon Capital of Wessex and England – Winchester. Most of the route is ancient, made up out of the old droving roads that took animals and goods between the market towns of the region. On the way “Dew Ponds,” ring forts, cross dykes and tumuli reflect a history stretching back into the mists of time. 8D/7N, from $998 or 10D/9N, from $1165.
  • Cornish Coastal Path for 2005: Our one week’s walk explores the most scenic and varied part of the Cornish coast, on either side of Lizard Head, the southernmost tip of mainland Britain. 8D/7N, from $1075.
