PERU: NAVEL OF THE WORLD

LIMA, CUZCO & MACHU PICCHU

Thu: Optional Arequipa & Colca Canyon Extension (3N)
Sun: Optional Ica, Nazca Line & Paracas Extension (2N).

Day 1, Tue: Arrive in Lima. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for overnight.

Day 2, Wed: Transfer to Lima Airport for the flight to Cuzco, last Capital of the Inca Empire and the "Navel of the World". You will be met and transferred to you hotel. A little rest is in order to let you adjust to the altitude. Afternoon guided tour of Cuzco with its Colonial and Inca monuments and surrounding archaeological sites. The tour will show you this amazing colonial city built on the foundations of Inca palaces. Visit the Koricancha, the Plaza de Armas and Cathedral, then drive out to the impressive Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the Andesgold.gif (13749 bytes)underground cave and temple of Kenko, and Tambomachay. Overnight in Cuzco. (B)

Day 3, Thu: Transfer to the train station for the scenic train ride to Machu Picchu, the magnificent citadel of the Incas which lay undisturbed until its discovery early in this century by the American Hiram Bingham. Guided tour of the ruins with lunch included. Overnight in Aguas Calientes (B,L).

Day 4, Fri: Morning free to explore the ruins on your own. Take the train back to Cuzco, arriving in the late afternoon. Transfer to your hotel (B).

Day 5, Sat: Optional Puno (2N) or Puno & La Pax 3N extension. (B). Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Lima. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon take an exciting tour of Lima's principal attractions. See the colonial downtown and visit the elegant residential areas of San Isidro and Miraflores, then on to the Huaca Huallamarca, and end your tour with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. Overnight in Lima.

Day 6: Transfer to the airport to board your international flight. (B)

Puno & La Paz (4D/3N, every Saturday)
